Marriage registration with a citizen of Russia

Since February 6, 2010, the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Russian Federation on the mutual entry of notes on marriage registration or divorce in the passports of citizens of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation has been in force.

The Agreement allows the registry office or the consular department, or the nearest branch of the Embassy of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus to make entries about marriage registration and divorce in the passports of both Belarusian and Russian citizens.

You can register a marriage in any registry office in Belarus or Russia.

Documents are submitted at the place of residence of the bride, groom, or their parents:

1. Passport (no translation into Russian required).
   If the passport contains entries in Belarusian, they must be translated and notarized.
2. Court decision that you are divorced or a certificate that you are not married. Everything must be notarized.
3. Application for your desire to enter into marriage,

According to Article 27 of the RF Law "On Acts of Civil Status," marriage registration can only be performed after a month has passed after submitting the application to the registry office. And not later than two months.

A certificate stating that nothing prevents the conclusion of your marriage, you can obtain at the consular department or the nearest branch of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation, in case you have оформлено all the rules for departure to permanent residence in Russia and are the holder of a passport of the PP series.

The certificate costs 35 euros and is issued within one day.

But if you are Belarusian and live in Russia with your regular internal passport, then you must go to your homeland for the certificate.

The marriage registration stamp in the passport can be placed in Belarus — in the Russian passport, in Russia — in the Belarusian one. The stamp is placed at the registry office or in the consular department, or at the embassy branch. You must have your passport and the original marriage certificate with you.
