Dear friend!
We are glad to welcome you to our page! We are volunteers of the Elpis club.
Youth is a wonderful time when everyone wants to change something, surprise someone, somehow express themselves, do something special! Volunteering provides a unique opportunity to “be seen in a good way.” Any person who wants to help those in need selflessly can become a volunteer. After all, it’s so wonderful to bring joy to others not for something, but just like that, from the heart!
The goal of our volunteer club is to involve young people in solving socially significant problems.
The Volunteer Club “Elpis” was created by the NGO “Business Women’s Club” on November 22, 2010 within the framework of the republican project of the RPO “Belarusian Association of Unesco Clubs” “Prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Belarus - 2” on the basis of dormitory No. 4 of the educational institution “Brest State University named after A.S. Pushkin." Over the course of several days, a professional trainer prepared a group of multipliers (volunteer trainers) of 22 people from among students of the psychological, pedagogical and socio-pedagogical faculties of the university to conduct information and preventive activities on HIV infection among students in the city of Brest on the principle of “peer teaching peer” using interactive methods. Today, in informing and training young people, the most effective are the principle of “peer teaching peer” and interactive methods. Training on the principle of “peer teaching peer” involves the transfer of certain knowledge by trained and motivated young people to people of equal age. Peer education is perceived by youth as advice from a knowledgeable friend, rather than as “sermons” from adults on how to behave. The use of interactive methods makes it possible to make knowledge more accessible, because during the learning process young people can freely ask questions, exchange experiences, express their opinions, in general, the whole process is aimed at addressing the personal experience of peers and their friends.
Volunteers participated in the republican mini-initiative competitions and won 2 grants for the implementation of the mini-projects Love and Fidelity against HIV and Equal Rights - Equal Responsibility. In the mini-project “Love and Fidelity against HIV”, volunteers (in addition to conducting the usual events and trainings) developed a new form of work with young people - an interactive mini-performance.
Over the 2 years of participation in the project “Prevention and Treatment of HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Belarus - 2”, volunteers of the Elpis club covered over 5,000 young people in Brest with their preventive activities and established themselves as creative people who have an unconventional approach to organizing and conducting their events.
The volunteers decided not to stop there and are currently involved in the implementation of a new project of the NGO “Business Women’s Club” “Combating human trafficking, taking into account the gender aspect among students in Brest.”
Project goal: to create an effective mechanism using a gender approach aimed at preventing human trafficking among young people through the systematic work of a volunteer club in educational institutions of Brest.
Volunteers of the Elpis club, trained on the principle of “peer teaching peer”, will carry out preventive activities from September 2013 to February 2014 in order to inform students of Brest on the issues of human trafficking, taking into account the gender aspect.
