The project "Organization and holding of joint events on human trafficking with the Office of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Brest region" was implemented in 2017 with the financial support of the Small Grants Program of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Belarus.
The aim of the project is to protect the rights and legitimate interests of children who have suffered sexual violence and child trafficking by improving the mechanism for proving, investigating and suppressing crimes related to child pornography and pedophilia in the Republic of Belarus, based on national and international strategies in cooperation with NGOs.
During the implementation of the project, "Recommendations on the algorithm for proving illegal actions of persons involved in child pornography and pedophilia, as well as methodological recommendations on the specifics of detecting and investigating crimes of child pornography" were developed.
An information campaign "No child trafficking, let's protect their rights!" was held in the regional cities of the Republic of Belarus, 4,000 booklets and 10,000 information calendars were produced on the rules of child safety and the prevention of crimes against children, including on the Internet. Information materials were distributed to education workers, parents of children, guardians, and guardianship authorities.
The implementation of the project made it possible to raise awareness among participants about the relevance of the problem of sexual abuse of children in the Republic of Belarus and the world, about national and international strategies, including the recommendations for the Republic of Belarus by the GRETA expert group on the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings concerning trafficking in children.
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus noted the importance of cooperation with NGOs and international organizations on issues related to the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of children affected by sexual violence. The results of the project are covered in the departmental scientific and practical journal of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus "Preliminary Investigation" No. 1 of 2017.
