As early as December 16, Belavia will launch flights on the new regular route Minsk — Urumqi, which, incidentally, will be the first and currently the only direct flight of the airline to China. As emphasized by Igor Cherginets, the general director of JSC "Belavia Airline", China is one of Belarus' main strategic partners, and the establishment of direct communication between the countries is a significant event opening up new prospects for the development of international cooperation.
— Everything starts with the economy: promising directions are associated with the East, Southeast Asia, primarily with China, — explained I. Cherginets. — The choice in favor of Urumqi was notслучайный. The capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is the nearest metropolis in China, where more than 4 million people live, business, trade and tourism are actively developing. In addition, as part of the strategic initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, a large international air transport hub is planned to be organized at Urumqi airport, which will open up additional transfer opportunities for our passengers.
During the event, the general director of Belavia added that in the coming year it is planned to organize other flights to China, as well as to strengthen the company's presence in the regional cities of Belarus.
I. Cherginets also noted that he expects the Minsk — Urumqi route to be popular among entrepreneurs, foreign students from China, and tourists. At the moment, the flight is not fully booked, since November 18, Belavia has announced a promotion for purchasing tickets at reduced rates for many flights, including to Urumqi.
The geographical location of the city makes it a key transport hub between China, Central Asia, Russia and Europe. The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region borders 8 countries, and its capital, Urumqi, is located at the intersection of important transport routes, including the modern route of the «One Belt, One Road» initiative. In addition, the region is known for its rich cultural heritage, where Uygur, Kazakh and Chinese cultures intersect.
— I think this is a very good direction both economically and in terms of tourism, — noted Zhao Qingqiu, Secretary General of the Association of Chinese Companies. — A lot of government and business organizations are cooperating with Belarus. And an additional flight will allow expanding the interaction between companies. The most popular areas in which China is interested are industry, culture and tourism. Another feature of Urumqi is its advantageous location. The city is practically on the border with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, which opens up opportunities for cooperation with these countries as well.
Flight features
Flights in this direction will be organized once a week on Mondays. The flight time will be about 6 hours: the plane departs from Minsk at 11:10 and arrives in Urumqi at 22:10 local time. The return flight from China is scheduled for 23:20, passengers will land in Minsk at 1:00 a.m. (the next day).
The cost of a one-way flight starts from 222 euros, and a round-trip flight — from 341 euros.
Boeing category aircraft have a two-class configuration. Hot meals are also provided during the flight. In economy class, passengers can choose between chicken pancakes or vegetable noodles, hot and cold drinks. For those traveling in business class, the meals will be more plentiful and varied, with snacks included in the menu.
Belarusians do not need a visa to visit China. Under such conditions, you can stay in the country for up to 30 days during one trip and no more than 90 days in a calendar year.
