Lithuania has tightened legislation regarding residence permits.
06.07.2024

Starting from July 1, the decision to revoke a residence permit in Lithuania comes into force immediately, rather than being suspended, as it was before. This is reported by the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.
Previously, a foreigner who filed a complaint with the court was given a residence permit and permanent residence card for the duration of the proceedings. According to the Migration Department, holders of cancelled residence permits used the time thus obtained to legalize retroactively: to find another employer, enter into a fictitious marriage, etc.
Now, regardless of whether the foreigner has filed a complaint against the department's decision or not, he must leave the territory of Lithuania within 14 days after the cancellation of the residence permit. Otherwise, he will be given a decision to return to his homeland. If the "unwanted guest" ignores this decision, he will simply be deported and banned from entering the Baltic Republic from now on.
Earlier, we reported that Lithuania has terminated some bilateral agreements with Belarus and Russia.
