    How can Belarusians receive medical care in Russia?

    15.12.2023
       Getting sick in another country is very unpleasant, especially if you do not know what the law says about such cases: whether assistance is provided free of charge or on a paid basis, whether free emergency assistance is provided, what documents are needed. In this material, we explain on what grounds Belarusians can receive medical treatment in Russia and vice versa, what Russians need to do to receive medical treatment in Belarus.

       Medical assistance to Russians in Belarus

       According to the law, citizens of the Russian Federation who have a residence permit in Belarus have the right to receive free medical treatment in state Belarusian district clinics on an equal basis with Belarusians. Emergency medical assistance is also provided free of charge even in the absence of a residence permit, and a residence permit is not required to receive emergency assistance in case of socially dangerous diseases (such as tuberculosis, plague, cholera, anthrax, etc.) among citizens of the Russian Federation. However, planned medical care cannot be obtained free of charge for Russians without a residence permit.

       If a Russian citizen is officially employed by a Belarusian organization, then he or she also has the same rights to medical treatment in state healthcare institutions of the Republic of Belarus as Belarusians, it is only necessary to provide a copy of the employment contract and registration at the place of residence.

       Medical assistance to Belarusians in Russia

       The rules for medical assistance regarding Belarusians in Russia are the same as those that apply to Russians in Belarus.

       Belarusians who officially work in the Russian Federation, regardless of whether they have a residence permit, have the right to receive a compulsory health insurance policy (CHIP) free of charge and to receive free medical treatment in state clinics. If emergency assistance is needed, then free assistance will be provided even without CHIP. Now the policies are electronic, you can apply for it by writing an application to any convenient insurance medical company that operates in the field of compulsory health insurance.

       To apply for a CHIP policy, you will need the following:

       1) passport;

       2) copy of the employment contract;

       3) the number of the account in the compulsory pension insurance system (SNILS);

       4) a copy of registration at the place of stay.

       Without these documents, Belarusians will not be able to obtain a compulsory medical insurance policy, and, accordingly, will be forced to pay for medical treatment in Russia.
