Control at the entrance to the republic from the Russian Federation began operating in May of this year, the checks were carried out by Belarusian border guards in close cooperation with their Russian counterparts.
Monitoring activities on the Belarusian-Russian border, which have been carried out since May of this year, have been discontinued, Anton Bychkovsky, an official representative of the republic's State Border Committee, told Sputnik.
There has been no control by the Belarusian border guard service on the roads leading from the Russian Federation for a long time. But since May 5 of this year, passport checks for entry into the republic have begun.
"Monitoring activities on the Belarusian-Russian border have been stopped," Bychkovsky said.
How was the control conducted?
All you had to do was present your passport at the checkpoint.
Russian citizens could show Belarusian border guards both their internal and foreign passports. Residents of the republic needed an old or new passport to travel to Russia.
As the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Aleynik, told Sputnik, the checks at the border were related to the fact that the union Schengen would soon be launched.
The agreement on mutual recognition of visas between the two countries was signed in June 2020. And last year, the parties began to ratify the document. In particular, the Russian government approved it in December last year.
