According to experts, to avoid getting into a difficult situation, you should not take risks and try to cross the border with a damaged passport; it is better to get new biometric documents.
The holiday season is the most popular time for trips abroad. If you also decide to go on vacation to another country, it is extremely important that all documents are in order — tickets, health insurance, and especially the passport.
If a force majeure occurs and a week before your vacation the passport is lost or damaged, you need to urgently contact the citizenship and migration authorities, which are responsible for issuing and exchanging identity documents.
"In the event that an unpleasant situation with the passport suddenly occurs (shortly before departure abroad), do not take risks, do not delay, immediately contact the citizenship and migration department," Sputnik experts said.
According to them, the point is that a citizen with a damaged passport will simply not pass passport control.
"You will not be allowed to travel abroad with such a passport. If the surname or other data in the document is erased, it needs to be exchanged," the agency's interlocutors said.
What if you need a passport urgently?
Answering the question about how quickly it is possible to exchange a passport when tickets for a trip abroad have been purchased, experts noted that it will depend on the situation.
Currently, a new passport is made within a month, under an accelerated procedure — in two weeks. If you do not even have the opportunity to wait for this time, the passport can be made in seven days. But the price of such express production will be higher.
Thus, you can get a passport in the usual way (the procedure will take up to 30 days) for one basic unit. For manufacturing in an accelerated (two weeks) and urgent (week) manner, you will have to pay 2 and 3 basic units, respectively.
At the same time, the agency's interlocutors noted that even such an issue as the exchange of identity documents is resolved on an individual basis.
"You need to contact the head of the department of citizenship and migration. Explain the situation that will be clarified. Perhaps it will be possible to get a biometric passport and quite quickly. Our country does everything for people," the experts said.
According to them, new biometric passports and ID cards can be issued within three days.
"Today is Wednesday, you submit the documents today, and you can get a biometric document on Friday afternoon," the expert said.
He also drew attention to several important points: if you need to quickly obtain identity documents, you must immediately "apply for biometrics." In order to replace an invalid passport, a citizen must contact the department of citizenship and migration at the place of registration, not the place of residence.
"If you live in Minsk and are registered in Pukhovichi, take the Minsk-Osipovichi train and go to Pukhovichi," the expert said.
What documents are needed for the exchange
According to existing legislation, the following documents must be presented at the billing and passport center at the place of registration:
* passport subject to exchange or document confirming its loss;
* 4 color photographs corresponding to age, measuring 40?50 mm (on one sheet);
* marriage certificate or court decision on divorce;
* receipt for payment of the state fee.
If a citizen receives biometric identity documents, the procedure is even simpler. In this case, you need to submit a passport or other identity document, as well as a receipt for payment of the state fee to the Department of Citizenship and Migration.
The citizen will not have to write the application himself. It is automatically generated by the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, you just need to verify the data specified in it and put your signature.
There is also no need to bring photos – the photography is done on site, which has simplified the procedure as much as possible. The citizen will be provided with five options of his photo to choose the best one.
What about air travel?
If the passport is ready exactly on the day of departure, what to do with tickets that are issued in advance? Almost all airlines request the passport number when registering tickets, which changes to a new one when replacing the identity document. It will not be possible to fly to another country with an old ticket and a new passport.
"There is no need to worry, the ticket will be re-registered in accordance with the new identity documents," the airline explained this situation.
The ticket can be re-registered by entering new data. Most airlines provide this service free of charge, but it is better to request re-registration of the ticket in advance and clarify all the conditions directly with the organization that sells the tickets.
