The Embassy of the State of Israel in the Republic of Belarus has temporarily suspended operations due to a nationwide strike, the Sputnik news agency reported, citing the diplomatic mission in Minsk.
On Monday, information emerged that Israeli diplomatic missions around the world have been instructed to join the nationwide strike taking place in the country in protest against the judicial reform.
«Due to the general strike declared by the Histadrut — the General Federation of Laborers in Israel, which extends to government agencies, including diplomatic missions abroad, the embassy will be closed and consular services will not be provided», — the Israeli embassy told Sputnik on Monday.
The end of the strike will be announced additionally, the diplomatic mission noted.
In Israel, since the beginning of 2023, there have been mass protests due to the government's plans to carry out judicial reform. It limits the powers of the Supreme Court and will allow parliamentarians to challenge its decisions, and also gives the Cabinet control over the procedure for appointing judges.
Currently, Israel has a judicial system that has been formed and developed since the establishment of the state in 1948.
On Monday, against the backdrop of protests around the world, Israeli diplomatic missions are considering possible formats of the strike and prospects for functioning in the current conditions.
The suspension of operations has already been confirmed on the social media pages of the Israeli embassies in the United States and France.
