13.02.2023
Many people nowadays face emigration. Such serious changes can be scary: how much money is needed, what documents to collect, how long you can stay in the country legally. Therefore, it is always worth preparing for such issues in advance so as not to leave for the unknown. Using the example of emigration to Georgia, we explain how Belarusians can legally and safely stay and work there.
Belarusians do not need a visa to cross the border of Georgia, it will be enough just to have a passport and fill out a migration card. Despite such a simple entry procedure, it is impossible to stay in Georgia without leaving for a long time.

Once a year, Belarusians need to leave Georgia
for at least one day. At the same time,
if you have a residence permit, you will not have to leave Georgia. You can go anywhere — for example, to Armenia or Russia — and return the next day. Staying in Georgia longer than the allowed period is not worth it: for staying more than 3 months after the expiration date, you may be deported, fined (180 lari is 165 Belarusian rubles) and banned from entering the country for a year.
A residence permit also gives many other bonuses. There are 11 types of residence permits in Georgia, here are the most popular and realistic options:
1. Employment — if you are going to work in Georgia.
2. Student — if you are going to study at a higher educational institution.
3. For family reunification — you can apply for it if you have a relative with a residence permit in Georgia.
4. For stateless persons.
5. For victims of human trafficking.
6. Permanent — if you have lived in Georgia for more than 10 years.
7. Temporary — if in accordance with Georgian laws you have the status of a victim of domestic violence.
In addition, residence permits can be investment-based, short-term, indefinite, or for former citizens of Georgia. The first three are related to investments and the purchase of real estate.
Let's take a closer look at the work residence permit. Here are the documents required for it:
1) A copy of the travel document (most likely it will be an air ticket)
2) A copy of the document that confirms that you are in Georgia legally (a border crossing stamp in the passport is required)
3) An employment contract or other document that confirms your employment in Georgia. Belarusians do not need a work permit; an employment contract can be concluded in the country.
4) A document that confirms that your monthly income will be 5 times the subsistence minimum in Georgia (you will need to earn more than 1190 Belarusian rubles).
5) A certificate that confirms that the employer's annual revenue is more than 50,000 lari (47,986 Belarusian rubles) per hired foreigner. For educational and medical institutions, this amount is lower — 35,000 lari or 33,590 Belarusian rubles.
6) A 3x4 photo
There are no quotas for foreigners in Georgia. Remember that only legal work under an employment contract gives a foreigner the right to apply for residence in the country. Do not forget about the identity card, and also that certain requirements for education or health status may be needed for work.
The work of foreigners in Georgia is regulated by the law
«On labor migration». The Constitution and the Labor Code of the country guarantee foreigners the same right to work as citizens of Georgia.
