Russia will open a new consulate general in Belarus in the city of Grodno on Wednesday.
The Russian Federation will open a new foreign mission in Belarus on Wednesday — the Consulate General in the western city of Grodno, the press service of the Russian diplomatic mission in Minsk told RIA Novosti.
It is expected that the opening ceremony will be attended by the Russian ambassador to Belarus, Boris Gryzlov, representatives of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry leadership, as well as regional authorities.
In June, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that he discussed with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko the development of bilateral contacts between Moscow and Minsk, in particular, the mutual expansion of consular presence, and announced plans to open a consulate general in Grodno. The order to open it was signed on November 28 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. Prior to this, the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries exchanged notes, agreeing on the opening of the consulate general.
