In which countries are Belarusian diplomas recognized

    31.05.2022
Diploma recognition is a very popular and sought-after topic among young people around the world. Some need to go through the procedure to continue their education in another country, while others need it when applying for a job in a foreign organization in their specialty.

       Where Belarusian diplomas are recognized

A Belarusian higher education diploma can be recognized in any country — this happens automatically or through a special recognition procedure. Higher education documents are automatically recognized on a reciprocal basis in the CIS countries:

Belarus; Russia; Azerbaijan; Kazakhstan; Armenia; Moldova; Kyrgyzstan; Tajikistan; Uzbekistan.

In addition, Belarus has signed agreements on diploma equivalence with Poland, China, Pakistan, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Previously, an agreement on the mutual recognition of educational documents was in force with Ukraine, but it was annulled in the spring of 2022.

The Republican Institute of Higher Education carries out the procedure for recognizing educational documents of all levels, starting with the school certificate, obtained abroad, both by our citizens and foreigners coming to us to work or continue their education. In addition, there is also professional certification in certain areas of activity. This applies, for example, to medical specialties.

The Ministry of Labor, together with the Ministry of Education and other bodies of Belarus, are now developing a strategy for the development of the national qualifications system, within the framework of which independent professional certification will be created. Foreigners, both with and without a diploma, will be able to undergo it. It is assumed that the certification will not duplicate the state exam at universities or colleges, but will allow confirming the presence of the necessary skills and competencies.

There is another tool that affects the recognition of educational documents — this is the participation of universities in international rankings. In particular, if a university is a leader in certain rankings, then educational documents may also be recognized.

Let us recall that Belarus, like most European states, is a member of the Lisbon Convention on Recognition. In theory, an educational document can be recognized, but there are nuances related to the peculiarities of national legislation and the field of a person's professional activity.

How to Confirm a Foreign Diploma in Belarus

Despite the development of the field for recognizing diplomas from foreigners, the Ministry of Education emphasizes that the main educational and labor trajectory is made up of Belarusians. As noted by the head of the main department of vocational education of the Ministry of Education, Sergei Kasperovich, the range of specialties, the quality of education, the level of competencies of teachers, and the diploma obtained as a whole correspond to the world level, and in some areas Belarus is a leader. At the same time, Sergei Kasperovich emphasized that Belarus has a system for training specialists, when, if necessary, a student is sent abroad, for example, to Russia, to study in areas for which training has not been развернута in Belarus.
