Belarusians will be able to import duty-free goods for personal use from abroad in the amount of up to 1 thousand euros and weighing up to 31 kg. This decision was made today by the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the official representative of the EEC, Iya Malkina, said at a briefing, BelTA has learned.
"The EEC Council has raised the duty-free threshold for the import of goods for personal use to Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia to 1,000 euros and 31 kg," said Iya Malkina. "We are talking about the import of baggage by all means of transport, except by air, or its movement on foot."
Previously, the duty-free threshold was 500 euros and 25 kg.
"If the value of the goods exceeds the specified norms, you will need to pay a duty of 30% of the value, but not less than 4 euros per 1 kg. This measure will help to support citizens in the face of sanctions pressure and avoid shortages of essential goods and critical imports," said the representative of the EEC.
She clarified that this measure will be in effect temporarily - until October 1 of this year. The decision will take effect in 10 calendar days from the date of publication.
Iya Malkina also recalled that earlier the EEC Council raised the duty-free import threshold to 1 thousand euros for goods for individuals transported by carrier or in mail.
