Having met an unknown person on social media who introduced himself as a US citizen, a mother of three children from Luninets sent him $9,000, Media-Polesye reports.
The woman met the attacker on the internet. They corresponded in English. The man talked about how he works for a large construction company and earns good money. A trusting relationship was established between the couple.
One day the admirer reported that he was going on an international business trip to Cyprus, where he would receive a large earnings. This would allegedly allow them to be together. As proof of the trip, he sent screenshots of documents.
However, «unforeseen circumstances» occurred — the builder was «stuck at Cypriot customs». He turned to his beloved for help and asked her to transfer money. But in the name of a friend, explaining that he was a non-resident and could not receive the transfer. The woman immediately rushed to help the potential groom.
He asked for money under various pretexts, and she borrowed money but fulfilled his whims. At first, the amounts were insignificant, but gradually they grew to a one-time transfer of $3,000.
When the woman realized and tried to find out the passport number and address of her lover, he disappeared.
The deceived woman from Luninets filed a report with the police.
— The criminal investigation department is checking this fact, — Alexander Verenich, head of the staff of the Luninets District Department of Internal Affairs, told Media-Polesye.
