Беларусь и Россия работают над соглашением о признании виз, но когда оно появится — неясно

Work on the agreement on mutual recognition of visas in Belarus and Russia is ongoing. But the deadlines for when the so-called Schengen for two might appear have not been announced yet.
— If there are no problems with mutual trips of citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus within the Союзное государство, then we have set the task of resolving the issue of crossing the internal border by citizens of third countries. This agreement is currently being developed, — says Dmitry Demidenko, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Migration Issues of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. — Why is the work taking so long? Because over the past decades, our migration legislation has probably diverged by 20%, although 80% of it is similar. Therefore, we are faced with certain nuances, but the work is underway.
— For example, with a Belarusian visa, you can stay in Belarus for 90 days within one year, — adds Aleksei Begun, Head of the Department for Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus. — In Russia, you can stay for 90 days within six months with a visa. These are the differences. The fact is that the Russian Federation is bound by agreements with the EU, we don't have such agreements yet.
The deadlines for when Belarus and Russia might have an agreement on mutual recognition of visas have not been announced.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the agreement on mutual recognition of visas would facilitate crossing the Russian-Belarusian border by citizens of third countries. The idea is that a foreigner entering one of the two countries with a visa issued by that country could move to the other country with the same visa.
«Accordingly, those who are not issued a visa for security reasons or other reasons would also not be accepted in the neighboring state. We also propose to use the experience recorded in the Schengen Agreement, which has already proven its high efficiency. This will be discussed,» added the Russian Foreign Minister.
Recall that since 2014, Russian diplomats have been talking about the possibility of a single visa for the Союзное государство — a mini-Schengen for the two countries. Vladimir Putin spoke about this in March 2015. In September of the same year, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev did too. At that time, his words hinted that this would help combat illegal migration.
It was reported that the document would only concern those states with which Belarus and Russia have the same visa regime. Other foreigners from 80 countries of the world visiting Belarus under the 5-day visa-free regime will still not be able to travel to Russia.
