Domestic violence is a complex type of violence that involves a cycle of physical, verbal, emotional, spiritual and economic humiliation and intimidation that is repeated with increasing frequency in order to maintain control over the victim. Thus, domestic violence is not only the traditionally implied beatings and sexual violence. There are also hidden forms: systematic insults and humiliation of dignity, forced isolation from the outside world (ban on work, study, meeting with friends and even relatives), economic oppression (severe restrictions on finances and the requirement for detailed reporting - often with a ban on earning money on one’s own). Domestic violence is not an accident, but a problem of modern society, which we have not yet accepted.
Where can I get help in a situation of domestic violence?
1. Law enforcement authorities. If you are experiencing family cruelty, you can contact law enforcement authorities by calling 102.
2. Territorial Social Service Centers (TCSP).Most TCSP staff have highly qualified psychologists and social work specialists who can help you understand the current situation and, if necessary, redirect you to the appropriate institutions.
3. Medical institutions. If you have suffered from physical violence, you can go to medical institutions at your place of residence and “relieve” the beatings. In the future, a doctor's opinion can help you if you decide to punish the criminal.
4. Public organizations and government centers. In the Republic of Belarus there are a number of public organizations that can provide you with psychological assistance if you are in a situation of domestic violence.
