Since 2013, a number of projects and programs to improve the financial literacy of the population have been successfully operating in the Republic of Belarus. Their task is to teach Belarusians how to properly use their earned money, make smart financial decisions and be responsible for them. Already now, if you wish, you will find a number of training seminars and master classes on this issue.
Since September 2015, within the framework of the project, the Public Association “Business Women’s Club” in Brest begins to conduct trainings on personal financial literacy. This is not a tribute to a fashionable, but a very relevant trend now. After all, the employees of the organization, who daily provide assistance in solving such important issues for society as information on safe travel and stay abroad and combating human trafficking, providing assistance to victims of various forms of human trafficking, HIV/AIDS prevention, gender inequality, are most acutely aware of the importance and necessity of training a person’s financial literacy. Understanding that it is its absence in most cases that leads to undesirable results, to broken destinies.
What will be the specifics of the training on personal financial literacy of the Public Association “Business Women’s Club” in Brest? This question is answered by a member of the Club, certified financial literacy trainer Irina Volkova - “In the program of my training on financial literacy, I tried to combine quite a lot of material on this issue, my personal life experience and questions with which people contact us on the hotline.” This does not mean that this training is highly specialized. No, I hope it will be of interest to everyone who wants to understand the basics of financial literacy using the example of ordinary life situations, and will lead to the understanding that money is only a tool with which you can achieve your dream, and not the dream itself.”
This training course is carried out with the support of the New Eurasia Establishment, the Eurasia Foundation and with funds from the US Agency for International Development. It includes not only the training of trainers-consultants in methods of teaching and consulting on financial literacy, the development of a methodological manual for trainers-consultants, but also the conduction by consultants of a series of trainings on financial literacy for women who need increased social and economic security. The knowledge gained during the training will improve the economic situation of women and ensure effective management of personal and family budgets. Women will acquire the ability to navigate the financial market of the Republic of Belarus, which means they will be more protected from all life’s adversities.
In 2015, the NGO “Business Women’s Club,” says its chairman, Larisa Istomova, “turns 20 years old. We have vast experience in solving social problems and dozens of completed projects. Conducting trainings on developing personal financial literacy for women will strengthen their social and economic security. And this is only part of the new project “Strengthening the institutional capacity of the organization in activities for the comprehensive protection of social and economic rights of women in the Brest region”, developed and carried out with the support of the New Eurasia Institution, the Eurasia Foundation and with funds from the US Agency for International Development. Its next step is the development of a strategic plan for the development of the activities of the NGO "Business Women's Club" to ensure targeted and systematic improvement of interaction with vulnerable groups of the population and improve the quality of solving their social problems."
