    A written consent of a legal representative for a minor's departure from Belarus can be issued by a notary or in the department of citizenship and migration of the internal affairs body at the place of residence of the legal representative or the child. Children's safety on the internet

    1. What is parental control on a computer?

    Parental control on a computer (mobile phone or other gadget) is a set of programs and actions where you can allow or prohibit certain applications, games, restrict access to harmful or inappropriate websites for children, determine the time when the child can use the computer, and more.

    If you cannot connect the «Parental Control» yourself by changing the settings, you can contact the technical support service of your provider. A provider is a company that gives you access to the Internet, such as Beltelecom (ByFly), MTS, A1, and others.

    2. How to set up parental control on Android?

    1. Open the «Play Store» app on your child's device.
    2. Pull out the panel on the left side and find the «Settings» item on it.
    3. On the «Play Store» options page, go to the «Parental Control» section. Activate this function using the switch.
    4. Next, you will be asked to enter a PIN code twice to protect the settings. After that, you should set the age rating for the applications that will be available to the child.

    This is a very useful feature that will ensure the safety of the child's mental health.

    3. What should I do if my child is being harassed online?

    Such actions, called griefing or simply hooliganism, are very common. If harassment begins, you can simply block such a person. Save all emails coming from the harasser and forward them to your provider to take appropriate action.

    4. What to do if my child is being bullied by classmates online?

    1. Teach and learn to trust. Any parent wants to know if someone is hurting their child, this is possible when there is mutual trust. Explain to the children that they can tell you not only about good news, but also about bad news, without fear of a negative reaction.
    2. Foster self-confidence. Support children's self-confidence not only with words, but also with actions. Help them find an activity they enjoy and develop skills they can be proud of.
    3. Teach how to protect personal information. Tell the child what can be posted on the Internet, but information such as home address, phone number, personal photos should not be published. Teach the child to be careful about what and where they post. Make sure that the child understands the importance of protecting their accounts: you cannot share passwords with even your best friends.
    4. Protect against aggression. The simplest way to stop cyberbullying is to "ban" the aggressor. The child should understand that it is possible and necessary to complain about insults on social networks. The main thing is to understand that there is nothing shameful about getting rid of bullying by "banning" the offender. It's not a sign of weakness, but quite the opposite — a way to say "this is unfair, and I don't want to hear it."
    5. Keep an eye on what's happening at school.
    6. Add your child as a friend.
    7. You can't respond to aggressors. The most effective strategy is to ignore cyberbullying. Explain to the child that the aggressor is not better or worse than him, he is just a child who is most likely very scared for some reason, and when he grows up, he will also be ashamed.

    5. What are the internet threats?

    The internet can be a great place for both learning and relaxing and communicating with friends. But like the whole real world, the web can also be dangerous.

    There are the following types of dangers for young users on the World Wide Web:

  • suicide sites;
  • sites-forums of potential suicides;
  • pornographic sites;
  • sites inciting ethnic hatred and racial intolerance (extremism, nationalism, fascism);
  • drug sites (the internet is full of news about the "benefits" of marijuana use, recipes and tips for making "potion");
  • dating sites (virtual communication destroys the ability to communicate in real life, teenagers lose their communication skills);
  • sites promoting extremism, violence and behavior that does not meet the requirements of social norms; direct threats to the life and health of schoolchildren from strangers offering personal meetings, as well as various types of fraud;
  • sects (a virtual interlocutor can influence a teenager's worldview).
  • 6. My child loves to take pictures and post their photos online. Is it dangerous?

    Of course, you can't forbid posting photos online, you just need to tell the child how to protect themselves, what can be posted and what can't.

    Explain to the child that:

    1. By analyzing photos posted on the Internet, one can identify his identity and location. Photos may contain GPS coordinates (geotags) that reveal the location. Photos taken in front of his own home, school, university, or office will openly indicate where he can be found.
    2. Photos can be stolen. There are numerous online dating sites that create fake profiles to attract new members. If he is not careful about posting his photos on the Internet, he may someday find his photo on one of these sites.
    3. One must be careful about adding people as friends. Let him review his entire friend list and decisively remove those he doesn't know at all or simply doesn't want to communicate with. This will help him maintain relative privacy for all his information, including photos.
    4. Privacy settings. On social networks, it is possible to filter people who can see his photos.
    5. There's no need to upload photos of a dubious nature. If he has ambiguous or explicit photos, he shouldn't send them to anyone, including his acquaintances. A friend's account, with whom he might decide to share an intimate photo, could be hacked and used by someone else.
