A 14-year-old girl and her mother helped detain a pedophile in the United States
In October, the girl, who has not been named, was returning home from school, but on the way she was stopped by 37-year-old man Isaiah Navarro and asked where the nearest McDonald's was. After the girl answered, he continued to talk to her and offered to meet her. However, the girl immediately realized that this should not be the case, and was not at a loss.: she pretended to agree to meet, but instead of her number, she gave the man her mother's number.
After returning home, the schoolgirl told her mother about the incident, and her mother decided to help the police arrest the criminal. To begin with, she began to correspond with him, and then she gave him and her number to the police, and then they continued to communicate with the pedophile. An unsuspecting Navarro tried to seduce the girl despite the fact that she told him about her age. He begged her for intimate photos, talked to her about sex and described his fantasies in detail, asked for a meeting and even offered to run away together. And, of course, he asked the girl not to tell anyone about anything.
The police agreed to a meeting on behalf of the girl, and when Navarro arrived at the designated location, they arrested him. The man was charged with involving a minor in sexualized exploitation and attempting to commit sexualized acts with a minor. Thanks to the actions of the schoolgirl, the criminal not only failed to get close to her, but also to harm other children in the future.
This is a very good example of a child's reaction to obvious illegal actions: the girl did not try to punish the perpetrator herself, but immediately trusted her mother, and after that they went to the police together. However, children are still not obligated to take on the responsibility of detaining pedophiles, because the situation could have developed according to another scenario. For example, a man could immediately call the number given by a schoolgirl to check if she was cheating on him. A man could react aggressively to this, and if their "acquaintance" had taken place in a deserted place, the situation could have taken a much more tragic turn.
The way the girl and her mother helped detain the criminal turned out to be the fastest and most effective, because they had evidence of the crime at their disposal — screenshots. But even if the girl hadn't given him the number, quickly gone home and told her mom, they could still have contacted the police and tipped them off about the pedophile, although it's not known if they would have been able to detain him based on his attempted acquaintance with a minor. Therefore, it is very important to be able to correctly assess the situation and not act as a hero if the perpetrator overtook the child in a deserted place at night.
