What does a foreigner need to obtain citizenship of Belarus?
To be eligible to apply for citizenship of Belarus, a foreigner must reside in the country for 5 years without moving (i.e., you cannot leave Belarus for more than 90 days a year).
Who doesn't need to wait 5 years?
1) Belarusians by nationality and direct blood relatives of Belarusians who were born abroad;
2) Those who have done something outstanding for Belarus, achieved certain heights in science, culture, sports, etc. In short, irreplaceable highly qualified specialists in their field. If you are such a person, then the state body that can confirm your merits to the country will petition for your admission to Belarusian citizenship;
3) Foreigners and stateless persons who previously had Belarusian citizenship;
4) Foreigners and stateless persons who have been married to a Belarusian citizen for more than 3 years, have a common child under 18 years of age with a Belarusian passport, and permanently reside in the country.

However, even if a foreigner falls under one of these categories, this does not give a 100% probability that he will receive Belarusian citizenship. Obtaining a Belarusian passport is subject to compliance with certain conditions.
Under what conditions can a foreigner obtain a Belarusian passport?
1) A foreigner must comply with Belarusian laws, honor the Constitution, and respect the symbols of the country: the flag, coat of arms, and anthem.
2) It is necessary to know one of the state languages of Belarus (Belarusian or Russian) at a sufficient level. It is important that people can understand you and you can understand them, otherwise you will not be able to live comfortably in the country and communicate not only in everyday life, but also with state institutions.
3) A foreigner must be officially employed and earn legally. Earnings must reach the subsistence minimum. If a foreigner has relatives to support, the salary must cover the expenses for them as well.
4) In Belarus, dual citizenship is prohibited. This means that a foreigner will have to renounce their first citizenship and any others they may have. The only exception is if a foreigner cannot renounce their citizenship of another country for any reason beyond their control.
And what if a foreigner wants their children to get a Belarusian passport?
For this, copies of the children's birth certificates will be needed, as well as the written and notarized consent of the children (aged 14 to 18) to obtain Belarusian citizenship. If not both parents but only one is obtaining a Belarusian passport, the other parent who wishes to retain their foreign citizenship must write a notarized consent for their children to obtain Belarusian citizenship. If the parent obtaining Belarusian citizenship cannot provide such consent from the other parent (for example, if the other parent has died or their whereabouts are unknown), then this fact must be proven with appropriate documents.
