Answering questions before they arise. Or, working in Poland, what is important to know

Every year, residents of Belarus leave to look for themselves in other countries. The flow of labor migrants from Belarus to the European Union, especially to Poland, is growing. It is this country that is the leader in migration requests, according to the statistics of our hotline 113; 8-801-201-5555 for safe departure and stay abroad of the NGO "Club of Business Women". Compared to 2015, the number of calls to the hotline regarding employment in Poland has increased fourfold. Everyone leaving to work abroad paints a picture that does not imply any pitfalls. But they exist. We will talk about them.

Language will take you to Kyiv

The first and main stop that arises when going to another country is the language. It's one thing when you're going on a trip. It's another thing when you're faced with everyday life. Poles speak quickly, and even if you have a minimal vocabulary, you may not be able to hear what they want from you. Therefore, before going to Poland, you should arm yourself with a lexical arsenal. In the 21st century, you can learn a language without leaving your home.

    Documents are important

If you have already found a suitable vacancy, then it is important to understand who is providing it to you. It is better if it is an employer, not a recruitment agency in Poland. The second option is legal, but implies certain risks. Since all issues are resolved with the recruitment agency, and this is not always what they promise you. Regarding food, insurance, housing, salary, and the amount of work. These issues most often are the reason for calls to the hotline.

Carefully read what kind of contract you are offered to sign: employment contract (umowa o prace), civil law contract (contract of assignment - umowa zlecenie or contract of work - umowa o dzielo). Working under an employment contract, feel free to count on an eight-hour working day and monthly payment of wages. If you have not received your honestly earned money, contact the Polish labor inspectorate.

If for any reason, while working in Poland, you are not paid your salary in the case of employment under a civil law contract, you will be able to assert your rights only through the Polish court. That is, not only have you not received your wages, but you will also need to spend money to defend them. And this requires not only money, but also the most valuable resource in life — time.

National work visa as the right to vote.

It is the national visa that gives you the right to work in this country. If you find employment illegally, you must understand that an unscrupulous employer can tie you in knots, in other words, put you in a victim's position and completely subordinate you to their conditions. And these include: often working in difficult conditions in hazardous industries, lodging in barracks, restrictions on movement, and, most frighteningly, frequent physical abuse. And these are not выдумки, but real stories shared by victims who contacted the "hotline" of the Business Women's Club.

    Tact.

If you have already found a suitable job and are working благополучно, remember that another country means a different mentality. You may have a diametrically different view of the same situation with a Polish colleague, which can lead to conflict out of nowhere. An example of this is historical topics. Such topics are best avoided. There is no need to argue your dogmas if the interlocutor is настроен to be your opponent. This is not appropriate. There are a number of neutral topics that can be discussed with your newly made colleagues. These act as a sort of safety cushion against publicity, awkward pauses, and misunderstandings.

Another country is always different. Including legally. However, ignorance of the law does not exempt from responsibility. And our hotline is designed to answer your questions before you even have them.
