    What prospective students need to know when coming to Germany

    In the spring, applicants prepare for admission, and if you want to study abroad, you need to prepare even more carefully, because the situation with the pandemic has made its own adjustments to the admission campaign. If you have chosen a educational institution in Germany, it is worth getting acquainted with useful information about admission. We tell you what documents you need to prepare and how to find out in what format the entrance exams will be held in 2021.

    We constantly update the information on the website — follow the updates or ask questions by calling the hotline numbers 113, 8-801-201-5555. The call is free.

    How to study for free?

    Similarly to Czech universities, which we wrote about here, the opportunity to study for free in Germany is available only in German. In order to confirm your knowledge of it, you need to have a certificate of German language proficiency at the level of at least B2 that meets the university standards.

    If you choose to study in English, you will also need a certificate — most likely, a TOEFL or IELTS certificate (it is better to check the options of suitable certificates on the website of the university you have chosen).

    What documents do you need to prepare for admission?

    1. Application form for a specific university;

    2. High school diploma;

    3. Diploma of completion of higher education (if you have already completed your studies) or academic certificate from the university (if you are still studying);

    4. Resume;

    5. Motivation letter (required for some universities);

    6. Confirmation of German language proficiency at least at the B2 level with the number of hours of study indicated (if you studied the language at your university, this information will be indicated in your diploma);

    7. Language certificates if the training will be in English (most often TOEFL, IELTS — check on the website of your university);

    8. 2 photos 35 by 45 mm;

    9. Passport copy;

    10. Other documents that may be requested (these may be GRE or GMAT exam results — it is best to check on the website of the university you have chosen or send an email inquiry to the admissions committee).

    Admission requires copies of documents certified by a sworn translator.

    If you are going to apply for a master's program, you need to check if the diploma of the university you graduated from is recognized in Germany. You can do this here.

    How to find out in what format the entrance exams will be held?

    For most specialties, an online application system is in place – this means you only need to send the necessary documents to the address specified on the website of your chosen educational institution. However, for some specialties, the need to take exams still remains. To find out in what format they will be held, it is best to write a written request to the email address of the admissions committee. This should be done in advance, as admissions committees are processing a lot of applications due to the pandemic conditions, so the response may take some time.
