What should you know before arriving in Belarus? Information for travelers and visitors to the country

In the context of the pandemic, traveling has become something special. But not only departure, but also entry into the country is difficult. Perhaps you have been waiting for relatives to arrive for a long time or wanted to invite friends to Belarus. We will figure out how things are going at the border now and who can come to visit in Belarus.

For non-citizens of the Republic of Belarus, arrival is possible without restrictions only by plane. Land checkpoints (cars, trains) are open to foreigners who have grounds for entering Belarus. This means that it is better to take care of tickets in advance – Belavia even has sales of popular routes and some routes can be caught for 70-100 euros one way, which is half the usual price.

How is the situation with the COVID-19 test? Who needs to take it?

Note that there are no restrictions on entry for citizens of Belarus and foreigners who have permanent residence or temporary residence permits – you can either fly by plane or come by train/car, and you do not need to take a PCR test. But remember: if you are returning from «red» zone countries, you need to serve a 10-day quarantine.

For other groups of foreign citizens who are planning to fly to Belarus, a PCR test is needed. The test result must be negative and it must be done no earlier than 3 days before arrival. Important information! The validity period of the test is counted from the moment of collection of biomaterial for research. This is the date and time of the test.

The exception is travelers arriving in Belarus in transit – if you have a document confirming this, you do not need a PCR test (for citizens of Russia who are traveling through land checkpoints or by plane in transit to Russia, there are also no restrictions on entry – this means that they do not need a PCR test and self-isolation). Transit for foreigners (non-citizens of the Russian Federation) is possible only if arriving in Belarus through air checkpoints.

You can read more about what kind of visit is meant by transit here.

If you are planning a trip to Belarus, be sure to check all the necessary documents (for example, an important item may be documents confirming the purpose of your visit). They may ask for them at the checkpoint. Take care of the address for self-isolation in advance, if you need one – you will also need to write it down at the border for appropriate checks. Make copies of important documents so that you don't worry and have the opportunity to provide copies instead of originals.

And remember, despite the fact that planning trips has become more difficult, they are still possible, the main thing is to prepare well.
