Visa-free travel for foreigners: who and how can enter Belarus without a visa?

Belarus is a country open to tourism. The visa-free regime significantly simplifies travel to our country for foreigners, which is why Belarusians actively take advantage of the opportunity to invite relatives or friends from other countries to visit. In this article, we explain which countries' citizens can enter the Republic of Belarus without a visa and under what conditions.

Visa-free entry for citizens of Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia

Until December 31, 2023, citizens of these countries can enter and exit Belarus without a visa. It is not yet known whether this permission will be extended. The permit also applies to non-citizens of Latvia — that is, people who were born in the USSR but never received Latvian or any other country's citizenship. These individuals have the right to travel throughout Belarus.

Citizens and non-citizens of Latvia and citizens of Lithuania can enter and exit the Republic of Belarus exclusively at the Belarusian-Latvian or Belarusian-Lithuanian border sections. However, Polish citizens can travel to Belarus through any international checkpoint on the border with the EU.

Thus, you can enter and exit the Republic of Belarus as many times as you like. However, these individuals can stay in Belarus for a maximum of 90 calendar days per year without a visa.

Polish and Latvian citizens (+non-citizens) must register at their temporary place of stay within 10 days. Lithuanian citizens — within 30 days.

    Visiting the visa-free territory "Brest-Grodno"

The reason for visiting these territories is tourism. You can visit them by filling out a document that a Belarusian travel agency will issue to a foreigner. Accordingly, you can only come to Belarus without a visa in this manner through travel agencies and for no more than 15 days. Citizens of 73 countries can come to these territories.

More information on the topic, for example, which territories can be visited, through which checkpoints to enter, and answers to other questions can be found at the link.

    Visa-free entry through Belarusian airports

Citizens of 76 countries have the right to fly to Belarus without a visa through the airports of Minsk, Brest, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Gomel and Grodno. An important point: foreigners can fly to the Republic of Belarus from any country other than Russia, since they are required to pass border control, which does not exist between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

Foreigners can stay in Belarus for up to 30 days and travel freely around the country. There are no restrictions on the number of visa-free trips, as long as they do not exceed 90 days per year in total.

If a foreigner plans to stay in Belarus for more than 10 days, they need to register at the place of their actual temporary stay or on the website of the unified portal of electronic services. portal.gov.by . The days of a foreigner's stay in the Republic of Belarus are counted from the moment the entry mark appears in the passport, that is, from the moment of arrival at the airport.
