In fact, anyone can become a victim of human trafficking, but there are the most vulnerable categories of citizens that recruiters pay attention to first. These are women, migrants, and children. But what life circumstances will make you more vulnerable in the eyes of recruiters?
You are at risk if you:
1. Are experiencing financial difficulties.
Another important point related to money: pay attention if your friend or relative suddenly starts receiving a lot of expensive gifts. Of course, this is not necessarily a road to slavery, but the giver may turn out to be a fraudster or a marriage scammer. 2. Have migrated illegally to another country and are trying to find work. Pay attention: if an employer does not want to hire you officially and sign an employment contract with you, offers unrealistically high wages, too rapid career growth, etc., refuses to answer questions about the position — be careful. It is better not to agree to such work even in your homeland, and if you are in a foreign country, then especially so.
3. You (or your loved ones) are addicted to drugs or alcohol.
If your friend has fallen into a situation of addiction, do not remain indifferent and suggest seeking help from rehabilitation centers.
4. Are a person (especially minors) who often runs away from home and spends the night with people you barely know.
There can be many reasons for such behavior: for example, a woman is trying to escape from domestic violence, a child is running away due to a dysfunctional family environment, a man has lost all his money gambling and ended up on the street. Do not ignore such people, share with them the addresses of free shelters or shelters for victims of domestic violence.
5. You are a victim of domestic and/or sexualized violence;
6. For some reason, you are in a very unstable situation. For example, you cannot stay in your previous place of residence and are forced to move and look for a new job, or you have some problems in the family (serious illness, loss of a breadwinner, sudden dismissal, etc.), which urgently require you to have money.
