Safety rules for traveling abroad to meet up. What you need to know

Online dating is common, and not just in Belarus. Many people find a partner through correspondence and then decide to meet in person — to talk to someone they might spend their life with. But online dating isn't always safe. We receive many requests from girls who are invited to go abroad for a meeting. We have compiled some rules that you need to follow when traveling in this case. And remember: be extremely careful!

    Before you go:

    1. Gather as much information as possible about your friend. Pay attention to whether he has a permanent job; whether he was married before and how many times; whether his previous marriage was officially terminated (divorce and separation are different things).

    2. You should have the exact address of your stay. Leave it with your relatives and friends, and also leave information about your friend. Ask them to send you a photo of their passport details.

    3. Save the address and phone number of the Belarusian embassy in the country you are flying to (if there is no Belarusian embassy, save the address of the Russian embassy). Write down the phone numbers of the consular department and the emergency contact phone number.

    4. See where the nearest Embassy of the Republic of Belarus is (for example, if you are flying to Mexico, the nearest embassy of the RB is in Cuba). Save the address.

    5. Your passport should always be with you, don't trust anyone with it!

    6. Make photocopies of all important documents (passport, health insurance, etc.), take one copy with you and leave another at home. Send a scan of the documents (or photos of them) to your email.

    7. Make sure you have tickets for both ways, even if you are going for a long time.

    8. Agree with your relatives how you will keep in touch with them. Come up with a code phrase that will let your family and friends know that something has happened to you.

    9. Get health insurance.

    10. Take a phrasebook or dictionary with you.

    11. Save information about organizations operating in this country. Contact them if necessary. These can be the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society, the International Organization for Migration. Save the address, phone numbers and email.

    12. Have an official invitation from your friend who is inviting you.

Remember that a visa from some countries does not guarantee entry into the country. You may be stopped by migration service officers and interviewed to determine the purpose of your trip and the time you will spend in the country, as well as how you will pay for your expenses during your trip. After that, migration control officers have the right to allow or prohibit entry into the country.

To avoid problems, it is necessary to have supporting documents for entering the country:

    - documents confirming financial solvency, such as a credit or debit card, traveler's checks, or cash;

    - documents confirming the purpose of your stay in Mexico, for example, a hotel booking sheet (voucher)

    c) an invitation from an individual inviting you (they must be a citizen of the country or have permanent residence status).

    - proof of return to your home country: a return ticket to your home country or another destination, etc.

IMPORTANT: do not forget that you can also invite your friend to visit your country, or meet in a third country. Citizens of 74 countries are allowed visa-free entry into Belarus through Minsk National Airport. Temporary stay in Belarus is allowed for no more than 30 days (including the day of arrival and departure).
