Imported groom. How not to fall for the bait of a marriage scammer?

Many women who have lost hope of finding love in real life resort to online dating. However, on social networks, you can find not only your soulmate, but also stumble upon a marriage scam artist. In his passionate letters, he will certainly promise mountains of gold and stars from the sky. And when you start to melt from his sweet speeches, he will unobtrusively ask for a transfer of a certain amount of money. The specialists of the NGO "Club of Businesswomen" will tell you what schemes such scammers use, how to recognize "seducers" and not end up in their networks.

    The fake Daddy General

Recently, a deception scheme has been popular, in which scammers put pressure on maternal feelings. You are receiving a message from an American military officer: a general, a sergeant, a doctor who is in a hot spot with a peacekeeping mission. The scammers actively monitor the political situation in the world and name Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria as the location of the military base.

According to legend, he is a widower with a child. A son or daughter lives in America, misses his dad very much and dreams of a new mom. There is no way for my father to leave the service–he is fighting terrorism and serving for the benefit of humanity. After a few days of correspondence, the other person will start showering you with affectionate words and compliments. In a week or two, he will ask if you would like to become his lady of the heart. At the same time, he will send you a photo in a military uniform. Fraudsters steal photos and names of real generals, majors, and sergeants of the American army from social networks or on departmental websites. Less often they send pictures of actors from unpopular TV series and films that are not broadcast on our television. One day, you may receive a message from a terrified son or daughter, saying that the father has disappeared and is not in touch. And besides you, the only person close to Dad, there is simply no one to turn to for help. The grief-stricken child will beg you not to leave him in a difficult life situation, transfer some money for a living or pay the costs of finding a dad.

    Help me go on vacation!

Marriage scammers are constantly coming up with new tricks. Another scam scenario is related to the topic of war and leave. Fake peacekeepers from hot spots manipulate a woman's desire to see her beloved as soon as possible. You are looking forward to a quick meeting, when suddenly a letter arrives about the need to pay a certain deposit for leave. The amount is from $800 to 2000. And since, apart from you, the only and beloved one, the potential groom has no close relatives, the payment of the deposit falls on your shoulders. But he will return the money "as soon as possible" — upon arrival in Belarus. To confirm his words, the fraudster can even send a corresponding document — якобы a US Department of Defense instruction. And he will ask you to transfer the money via the Western Union system.

How to recognize a fake groom?

    1. Be wary if you receive a message that does not refer to your profile.

    2. Almost at the very beginning of the acquaintance, the marriage scammer discreetly finds out your financial situation.

    3. He tells you pitiful life stories (sick child, hospitalized, forced to seek political asylum, etc.).

    4. Refuses to send photos from ordinary, everyday life.

    5. Asks you to transfer a certain amount of money to solve some of his problems.

Ask your acquaintance for a link to their social media profile; by studying their page, you can draw appropriate conclusions. Suggest communication via Skype or any other video messenger. You will immediately see whether the photos posted in the profile are true. Run their photos through an Internet search engine. If you wish, find the pages of real military personnel on Wikipedia and social networks and warn them about the fraud, attaching the necessary screenshots and links.

It's not easy to recognize a marriage scammer. They immediately see who falls for their bait and who doesn't. So be attentive to yourself and your loved ones and don't lose vigilance, because this is the only way to protect yourself from problems and not fall for the scammers' bait.
