Took a bath and became a self-isolation violator

2020 will definitely go down in history textbooks as a unique year. Perhaps, very soon we will look back and be surprised at how differently we used to build our lives and how good it is that everything turned out the way it did. Many people switched to remote learning and work. They started spending less time in traffic jams and making sad faces on public transport. We really missed sincere hugs, we began to appreciate simple pleasures like having coffee with a friend in the park or taking a child on a ride.

Our hotline for safe travel and stay abroad and combating human trafficking, supported by the International Organization for Migration in the Republic of Belarus, also restructured and organized its work to help a large number of people with the least possible contact with each other in the team. Despite closed borders around the world, our hotline did not receive fewer calls. On the contrary, there were many more of them. The last one was from a teacher from England.

An English intellectual named Oscar is in our area for the first time. The man came to Brest to exchange experiences with Belarusian teachers. In Belarus, the expert was registered by a friend, who indicated the address where the man would be staying on the questionnaire. And additionally wrote down his mobile phone number in case of any questions about Oscar's stay in Belarus, since the latter did not speak Russian perfectly.

The teacher complied with all the entry requirements for the country. He filled out a migration card at the border here, observed self-isolation. He stayed in a rented apartment.

Oscar was surprised when his friend called and said that the police were looking for the guest as a violator of self-isolation. The situation is simply banal: the man was in the shower at exactly the moment when they came to check on him.

Oscar's first action in this case would be to contact the local clinic. Despite the good intentions of staying in the country and confidence in the correctness of the actions, the foreigner still had a problem in Belarus. After all, every country has its own list of mandatory rules.

It is also worth reminding that in the current situation with COVID-19, when a foreigner cannot return home in a timely manner due to lack of transportation or for other reasons, the foreign citizen must contact the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Internal Affairs Directorate at the place of residence (registration) to extend the stay period.

Our hotline is staffed by experts who are familiar with all the pitfalls not only of staying in Belarus, but also abroad.

You can familiarize yourself with all the entry requirements for foreigners in Belarus here, and learn more in our article «Crossing the Belarusian border».

If you are planning to leave for another country, it's better to be on the safe side, and show self-reliance in some other situation.
