    Section "People Write to Us": is it possible to obtain Belarusian citizenship if you own real estate, and what grounds can there be for obtaining a residence permit in Belarus for Russian citizens

    We periodically receive questions about obtaining residence permits in Belarus, as well as about how one can obtain citizenship here. We answer some of them.

    The grounds for obtaining a residence permit in Belarus for Russian citizens can be:

    - studying at Belarusian institutes and universities;

    - reuniting with relatives (it is necessary to provide materials confirming the presence of a family relationship with a Belarusian citizen);

    - registering a marriage with a Belarusian citizen;

    - business migration;

    - work (to obtain a residence permit based on employment, the applicant must take care of a place to work in advance, since permission is issued only if there is a contract with a Belarusian employer);

    - owning real estate in the Republic of Belarus;

    - investment. Investing an amount of at least 150 thousand euros into the country's economy contributes to the legalization of the investor, providing him with the opportunity to obtain a residence permit, and subsequently citizenship, through a simplified procedure;

    - outstanding individuals;

    - also, persons who were born on its territory and lived there until November 12, 1991, have the right to legalization in the Republic of Belarus.

    The application along with the documents is submitted to the department of citizenship and migration under the Department of Internal Affairs, located at the place of registration in Belarus.

    Article 48 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus dated January 4, 2010 No. 105-Z "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons in the Republic of Belarus" sets out the grounds on which foreign citizens can obtain temporary residence permits in Belarus. One of the points is the reason of a foreigner owning residential real estate — in this case, he has the right to obtain a temporary residence permit (TRP) in Belarus for up to 1 year with the right to subsequent extension.

    If there is a legal source of income, a foreign citizen also has the right to apply for temporary residence permits for members of his family.

    Also, one of the grounds for obtaining a temporary residence permit in Belarus may be the fact that a foreigner is an ethnic Belarusian or his blood relative in the direct descending line: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren born outside the modern territory of the Republic of Belarus. In this case, you can get a temporary residence permit for a stay period of not more than one year.
