    A grateful customer's letter

In the modern world, there are too many fake gurus, trainers, and specialists in various fields. They like to advertise themselves loudly and are not ashamed to claim names for themselves. But there are indeed those who help people. They do it quietly and professionally, not expecting praise or applause. Grateful clients find them on their own. Recently, the NGO "Club of Business Women" received a letter from a grateful client. A woman was deceived by her employer. Moreover, he did it so skillfully that even an experienced and competent person did not immediately realize that he was in the hands of a fraudster. Elena went to the Czech Republic to work. She was hatching a plan to implement one project in her head. Money was needed, and so she decided. But something went wrong... Now the woman is going through rehabilitation after an incident abroad. And she thanks the employees of the NGO "Club of Business Women" for the help they provided her.

    Elena's letter.

Work for the benefit of society

When you say "the third sector", few people will understand that you are talking about public associations. For most people, they are associated with trade unions, charitable societies, foundations, amateur clubs and circles. Few people know that public associations belong to structures that can not only popularize, organize, give and protect, but also fundamentally change the life of human society, for example, at the legislative level.

I am familiar with one such association firsthand. 25 years ago, the NGO "Club of Business Women" was formed in Brest, under the leadership of the extraordinary leader Larisa Istomova, uniting energetic ambitious ladies who want to change the world for the better. Women professionals from many spheres of life: lawyers, teachers, psychologists, managers, taking on various directions, soon chose the only one they have been following for two decades — countering human trafficking.

The end of the nineties in our country was characterized by low salaries, banditry and open borders. The active population rushed abroad in search of a better life: some to trade, others to work, and others to arrange their personal lives. Many were not ready for harsh realities. Then not only robberies at the border and "scams" at work were frequent, but also the most severe forms of exploitation. Our people, brought up in the framework of Soviet humanism, were not ready for this, and the legislation turned out to be unprepared as well. The majority of victims of human trafficking, one way or another, ended up in the border town, and our girls from the Club of Business Women took upon themselves the main mission of helping such people. Fortunately, the range of professionals was quite widely represented in the organization.

And they helped a lot of people, no matter what! It should be taken into account that due to the unpreparedness of the legislation, government agencies were not fully involved then; their main role was to consult and coordinate the necessary structures. The club members' visits to officials' offices led to them being invited as experts to draft the law on combating human trafficking, the adoption of which fundamentally changed the situation on the illegal labor market.

All this happened before my eyes. As an employee of the third sector, I often encountered members of the Business Women's Club. I remember Larisa Istomova's wide eyes when she said that slavery still exists in our time! For me, it sounded distant then, but years passed and I faced this problem.

My employment in the Czech Republic this spring during the pandemic turned out to be labor slavery. No, not like the media describe it in horror stories with chains, behind closed doors, and other horrors. Times have changed, the developed legislative framework and the efforts of many organizations engaged in prevention and public awareness in this area have changed the situation. In my case, it turned out to be at the level of filling out enslaving contracts here in Brest, when an unscrupulous representative of the employment agency, using deception, psychological pressure methods, and other fraudulent arsenal, essentially sold me into labor slavery. Moreover, even after arriving at the place in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe — Prague, I did not immediately understand the situation. The picture became clearer later, when I had worked for a month and was hoping to receive my честно earned money. A well-versed legally savvy fraudster who sent me and other people abroad for «such» work has not been held accountable so far. I was referred to the Business Women's Club, where I was met by an old acquaintance, a colleague in social work — head Larisa Istomova. After listening and setting all the акценты, she offered me help (psychological, legal, retraining, etc.), and also provided me with a consultant, Valentina Pukhteeva, who oversees the stages of support and my rehabilitation.

In my interaction with the Business Women's Club, the most important thing was realizing that I had encountered people who know and understand how modern slave traders operate. It turns out that many victims still turn to the organization. Modern slavery has changed, and the psychological techniques and legal manipulations used by fraudsters often prevent people from seeing the whole picture and taking action. This is the gap that the Business Women's Club filled in my case, directing me to a rehabilitation center where I was able to recover in comfortable conditions. My recovery is ongoing, as is the support from the Club... We still have a lot to do together. It's one thing to stop and punish the fraudsters who act brazenly and with impunity, who have been sending people into forced labor abroad for years. And the most important thing is to find employment opportunities with decent pay here at home. The members of the Club are helping to solve this problem as well.

This year, the Business Women's Club is celebrating its 25th anniversary. For a quarter of a century, the girls from the Club have been at the forefront of solving social problems. As some are resolved, others emerge in a dynamic and changing society. The mobility, ability to change and adapt, as well as the high professionalism of the Club's members, who cover many fields of work, allow them to be not only useful to individuals, but also in demand in society as a whole. The third sector is the sector of proactive, brave, and talented individuals, whose activities change the world, from the outlook of individual citizens to global changes at the level of social structures and legislation. The Business Women's Club has once again confirmed this with its conscientious activities. And as my personal story shows: everything is just beginning. After all, society needs to adapt to modern realities, which require a different approach and new legislation. And once again, the NGO "Business Women's Club" is at the forefront, whose employees are always up to date with the problems of safe travel and stay abroad. Thanks to them, life in our society becomes safer and more secure. Good luck in your difficult work, prosperity and well-being, dear girls!
